My name is Carlton (Coach CO2) and I am a Lawyer turned course creator and founder of The 1L Playbook, which is the A to Z solution for first year law school students in the areas of effective class and exam prep so they can maintain low stress and build high levels of confidence around skills training for a successful first year outcome.
Years ago, I was a 1L going through the exact same process that you are experiencing now. My problem was I was horrible at test taking, evident by my 140 LSAT score. Right before law school, I got into a prep course for law school and in the course I was struggling making sense out of studying and briefing cases and was stressed out by the long study hours and having no real clarity on what I was learning.
A mentor of mine pulled me aside and gave me some valuable game and secrets on how I need to approach my first year of law school. I took his jewels and started creating a system that I perfected by the first semester of my first year of law school.
Equipped with this system, I felt like Neo in the Matrix. I could see every barrier and trap that was designed to keep me doing busy work but not truly learning the law principles I needed to excel on the exam (which is what truly mattered most).
This system that I created unlocked all the doors I needed to pass through to be successful in my first year of law school. I did not need to study and brief cases all day and night to get what was truly necessary for success (passing exams and getting good grades)
I was a horrible test taker and average writer but after applying the system I was able to achieve honor roll status and secured top internships, which springboard my legal career.
